Why Should I Buy This Cell Phone?

 

Last week, Emily (My girlfriend) and I when shopping for a new cell phone. She wanted a cool phone but not too expensive.

 

After hours of looking around, she found what she like ... a nice orange colored cell phone by Sony Ericsson!

 

(Side note: I don't think it's a nice phone. :-))

 

It's a cool phone that you can turn 180 degree with all sort of features in it.

 

 

Cool, eh? This is the cell phone.

 

So, being a non-techny guy and someone who has no clue about the latest cell phone gadgets, I asked the sales promoter...

 

"So, what can this phone do? Why is it more expensive than the rest?"

 

Here's what he replied,

 

"It plays MP3 music."

 

I continue to ask,

 

"And?"

 

He answered,

 

"It has a 1.3 mega pixels built-in camera." 

 

"Excuse me, but what does 'It plays MP3 music' and 'It has 1.3 mega pixels built-in camera' do for me?"

 

And the sales promoter kept on telling me the same thing over and over again. It plays MP3 music and 1.3 mega pixels camera build-in.

 

Hhmm. This got me thinking. This sales promoter is definitely NOT a marketer!

 

Honestly, I don't care or don't know what 1.3 mega pixels camera can do for me or Emily.

 

Do you know how many mega pixels are a good benchmark for camera in a cell phone ?

 

Ok, you might know. But I don't. Most cell phones can play MP3 music nowadays. It's no big deal that this phone can also play it.

 

The missing link here is that ...

 

The sales promoter is 'selling' the FEATURES, NOT BENEFITS.

 

When you're selling online, you need to sell the benefits of what your customers can experience or get in return for taking the 'risk' to buy your product.

 

You're not too sure what the difference is between features and benefits?

 

There's a lot of difference, and it can determine whether you're going to make money or not.

 

For instance, the phone can play crystal clear MP3 music as if you are listening from a discman. No joke. In fact, after we bought the cell phone, we've downloaded a tele-conference call that I did and it plays really well!

 

What's the benefit?

 

With a MP3 player capability that can play such clear music and sound, you can enjoy listening to your favorite songs when you're jogging or listen to tele-conference calls when driving to save time.

 

How about the 1.3 mega pixels built-in camera feature?

Can you still make money during Christmas?

 

It all depends on what you're selling on the internet.

 

Example, if you're in the 'internet marketing' or 'how to make money' niche, chances are you're not going to get a lot of sales in December.

 

 But I'm not worried about that. Serious. I know, a lot of marketers are. :-)

 

Have you heard about the Grasshopper and the Ant story?

 

The condensed story goes something like this...

 

Once upon a time, there were two friends. One a grasshopper and the other one an ant.

 

Both of them are good friends and they always hang out together.

 

One day, when Grasshopper invited Ant to hang out with him, Ant told him that he did not have time.

 

He told Grasshopper that winter is coming and he needs to save up food because he can't go out to look for it anymore when winter arrives.

 

But Grasshopper told Ant that it's still a long time until winter. Let's have fun first.

As you guessed, Ant ignored that and worked hard to stock up as much food as possible before Winter.

As for Grasshopper, he just kept on hopping around having fun ... until Winter arrives.

Grasshopper hadn't even realized that Winter had arrived so fast! The last time he knew, it was 2 weeks ago. But time flew by without him realizing.

Now he doesn't have food to eat or a good shelter to stay in while his Ant friend is enjoying his 'labor' of saving food and building a cozy home under an oak tree.

Of course, the story is much longer than this but I'm making it short to emphasize the point.

 

If you're building an online business in a niche market that will have a slow income month, use that time to prepare for what you want to do next month. This is the best time to do your preparation and planning. If you don't do it right, you're going to end up like Grasshopper when when 'Winter' arrives. In fact, you will not even realize how fast time passes by.

 

There's still ways to make money online during Christmas.

 

Many people go into a gift buying frenzy during Christmas and New Year. Big sites like Amazon.com, gifts.com and etc will have a surge of sales during this period of time.

 

If you want to ride on a 'giant' to make money during this festive season, try making money from eBay.com.

But Niche Marketing still works.

 

Surprisingly, if you're building an online niche business, you won't be effected a lot. Here's a captured picture of my recent sales for an online niche business (Nothing to do with internet marketing niche) that is 100% on autopilot. If you notice, sales still coming in nearly each day irregardless if it's a festive season or not.

 

 

That's why I always stress to everyone to build an online niche business.

Here are 3 ways you can increase sales immediately for your online niche business:

 

1. Put up a special 'Christmas offer' on your webpage selling your niche product. You can add more bonuses and offer a discount for them if they order during this festive period.

 

2. Send a 'Thank You' email to your existing customers to offer a free gift. In that email, recommend an affiliate product related to your niche business for them to buy and earn affiliate commission.

 

3. Contact other online niche site owners and bundle together all of your products and sell it at an affordable price. This way, you'll get other JV partners to promote your product for you.

Are you building someone's list?

 

I know I am. Each time I promote an affiliate program, I'm helping the owner to build his mailing list.

 

instance, one of my students that I taught how to make money online in my 2-day internet marketing workshop, sends traffic directly to the affiliate program websites by writing and publishing articles. His record was US $200 in 3 days by just doing that but it's NOT LONG-TERM.

 

So, if you're also an affiliate marketer, the biggest mistake you can make is to send your hard-earned traffic directly to the affiliate program's site that you're promoting.

 

The worst case is when the affiliate program's salesletter sucks and it won't convert any sale for you. That's REALLY BAD because it's your effort going down the drain.

 

Don't get me wrong.

 

You can't blame the affiliate program for building a list because that's one heck of a good strategy to increase sales conversion for YOU and him. You see, visitors normally don't buy the first time they visited the webpage. It takes several email follow-ups to persuade them to buy or to convince them that it's worthwhile to buy. It needs trust and credibility to get someone to buy online.

 

With that said, it's fine for you to build someone's list so that his follow-up emails will help to convert the sales and you'll earn your affiliate commission.

 

The way to benefit from building someone else's list is to build YOUR OWN list at the same time.

Before you send traffic to the affiliate program's webpage, get the visitor to subscribe to your mailing list first. This is called a 'landing page'. If you do this, you will have your own mailing list and if the subscriber does not order the affiliate program product that you had promoted, you can still promote other related products to this mailing list in the future.

Here's a super tip to increase your affiliate commission:

 

Follow up with your subscribers to promote the affiliate program that you had promoted to them earlier. This way, your email will follow up with the subscriber as a third party endorsement and also, follow up directly from the affiliate program owner.
