What does the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin to this platform?
Plugin Yoast is a complete suite of utilities for WordPress SEO, is that many people think that a good configuration of this plugin provides a large part of the level configuration page SEO on your site.
And, if you look for all sections provided by this plugin, we see a lot of configurations on topics as varied as titles and meta tags, social networks, sitemap, RSS and permalinks amongst some configurations.
How to install WordPress SEO Yoast
This plugin is free but also have the ability to add many premium features or pro to improve the features offered.
Still, in my view, it is more than enough for any project using the free version.
To download it, we will have to access the page that Joost de Valk (plugin developer) puts us at our disposal.
Also, on this site, we find a lot of useful content related to SEO for WordPress. If we are more plugins directory of this platform, we can also find it for download along with more information from this link.
Alternatively, we also can install directly from the manager that includes WordPress plugins.

Configuring WordPress SEO
The first tip, and most important of all, is that not try to set everything exactly as I do in this plugin.
Any time you have to enter variable data, such as titles and goals, I advise and encourage that you administrator for a few minutes to think about what you want to achieve in trying to improve the SEO of your project, from hence, act.
The first window that we find once we accessed the plugin is the general Settings.
This is where we have the possibility to make a small tour that proposes the developer itself while restoring all settings and return to the default settings that brings the plugin. We will also have the following:
– Tracking: if we want to help the developer to continue to improve its plugin, we have the ability to enable the boxes to send information about its operation.
– Security: disable option allows advanced in editing articles, especially useful in the case of a blog with several publishers who do not know SEO.
– Webmasters tools: if you have not discharged your blog in Google Webmaster tools, SEO by Yoast WordPress plugin also gives you a chance.
Titles and meta tags
This section is, in my view, one of the most important and most have to stand to value in improving the SEO of our site.
As we well indicated by its name, Yoast gives us the ability to change the titles and metadata of all our site and in a very personalized way, being possible custom settings for each item.
As I always say, and especially during this section, you do not watch out exactly everything that I do in the post or on video.
Once inside, we have the following options when configuring this plugin:
The first option active, in my case, is to force the writing of the titles, so that is what appears in this section which predominates by WordPress above any other configuration.
In blogs that are under WordPress we can see that every time we go on the cover to see the first articles appear, we find that on the following pages are created under a URL style: page / 2 page / 3, etc.
In terms of SEO, this means that all these pages are being indexed under the same title and metadata, creating a duplicate content that is not very well seen under the eyes of Google.
To avoid this, you can activate the option Noindex subpages file so that Google takes into account the content, but these pages may not appear in their search results.
Yoast WordPress SEO also gives us the ability to add keywords meta to our pages.
Although never use and keep off this option, you also have the possibility to include in each of the parts then you will see.
Moreover, and although my projects have not discharged in directories like DMOZ or Yahoo, this may be your case as you can also be the case that Google uses information from your site that is stored in DMOZ.
NOYDIR adding noodp and health labels will heal us so that what the information will be sent later we configure.
And finally, a very recommendable option, if you use third-party software like Windows Live Writer to publish your posts, is to activate options Hide links RSD and Hide links WLW Manifest that is stored in the <head > of your WordPress.
That said, it only remains to save the changes. Before you begin setting up the titles and goals, I leave many useful codes that will be able to use then if your version of Yoast does not include a help file with these variables:
%% title %% – Replace this tag for the title of each page
%% sitename %% – Add the name of the website.
%% %% sitedesc – Enter the site description.
%% %% excerpt – shows an excerpt of the article.
%% %% tag – Inserts in the description labels used.
%% category %% – Replace each label for the category in which the post is located.
There are many more, but they are the ones I use to configure the plugin for my projects. If you search “SEO by Yoast WordPress variables” on Google certainly find all there.
A section configuration with few but very important.
This is to define the title that will appear on Google, and whenever someone enters our page and meta description, we want to appear in search engines.
Remember that in this case should not happen to you, and so I recommend that your title does not exceed more than 70 characters and your meta description stay as much in about 155 characters.
If you spend, quiet, Google is not going to go for you but if it is true that the remaining part will be released in ellipses.
Once you set up, and when Google has walked through your site, you will see a result like the following search engine:
Both in this, as in the next two subsections, it is where we can set up a personalized way all metadata for unique items such as a post or a category.
Therefore, I recommend you to consider the variables or shortcodes I put back to use them in your configurations.
Type in the input section can change, in a very similar way, the information that we provide SEO level entries, pages and objects. Within each section, we can define the following parameters:
– Template title: the format will have each of the items that we publish. Depending on the kind of SEO that ye do is set your choice one way or another. In my case, as I seek is branding, just as I have set as %% title %% | Alejandro Caballero.
– Template meta description: the fragment appears in the Google search results. Personally, it’s something modified in each and every one of the item’s public, although the configuration has a predefined text. Later I explain how to modify it article by article.
– Meta Robots: if you do not want your content to appear in search results, you will have to activate this option. It may sound crazy, but I know several friends that if they activate this option for the case of objects and labels, to avoid lots of little useful content to Google that could provide these elements.
– Authorship: if you do not set the rel = “author” in your content, simply you will have to activate this box.
I do not stop to explain the settings for each case, as in all three, is exactly the same. Your intention is what will define what to include in each section.
In the same way, we’ve configured your posts, pages and objectives; the WordPress SEO plugin also shows virtually identical options when setting up the categories, labels and formats as you can see in the picture below:
However, given their similarity, I do not arrest me too to examine how it is configured.
As in previous cases, setting it in the same way, we can find the following options:
– Files author: If you have a blog with multiple authors, it can be highly recommended to optimize different pages of authors.
However, if you are the only ones who write on your site, take a page from the same author it is to have a page file or homepage, so it is better not to index this kind of pages to avoid duplicate.
– Archives dates: in the same way that a file signature makes little sense if you’re the only one published, have a page of dates is practically the same as having a home page.
You can configure it, but personally, I prefer not to have it in index format.
– Special pages: Yoast, finally, also allows us to modify the title appearing in two fairly common pages are search and Error 404.
In the next section, we can make the settings in the section on social networks. And it Yoast also gives us the possibility of slight changes in Facebook, Twitter and Google+.
The first thing we find is with the possibility of adding metadata provided by the Open Graph on our blog. Once activated, we will be able to set some pretty interesting options.
Since registering the user who manages the Facebook page of our site to be able to change in the same way as before the images and descriptions with which our content are posted on Facebook. All this in just a couple of minutes.
In the case of Twitter, we are referring to as metadata to known Twitter Cards. For those not familiar with them, it is information that appears under a tweet.
